Auberge Menata, Nouakchott

We have had a restful but successful day so far.  Chris has continued with small jobs this morning.  We have so much electrical and electronic devices with us which are a bit temperamental and either need rewiring or fuses replacing.  We have 3 inverters to step up from 12 or 24 volts on the Enterprise hotel and main batteries. The smallest of these went bang in Rabat but we found a replacement, only to discover that one of the chargers was faulty and did the same to the new one. Amazingly it is still working.  Anyway, it keeps our 'electrician' busy. Amongst what we are carrying are the netbook, large laptop, printer (which has already proved invaluable for creating travel documents and copying passports for visas),  an MP3 player - thanks Pete for all the music you copied for us - 2 SatNavs, lots of battery chargers for phones, cameras, shortwave radio, satellite phone ...

We got our visas for Mali in record time. Had to decide when we intend to get there so our plans are now fixed to be in Senegal for Christmas, probably St Louis at the Zebrabar to give us the opportunity of a flight in a new country.  We will leave in the morning and give a lift 2 a couple of medical students from Melbourne who are travelling the same way.  We expect to cross to Mali on 27th.  Roads are better we understand from Mauritania to Mali, but we only have single entry visas to Mauri so cannot return this way.

It has been very windy and the sand is whipped up, so walking into town is not so pleasant. While out driving to the Mali embassy we found a place to refill our empty cooking gas cylinder using a connection Chris bought in Asilah which worked successfully.  Our fresh water tank is full, we have caught up with the laundry and are looking forward to new adventures in an entirely new country.  We really feel that it all begins from here.  Temperatures have been comfortable here - it was quite chilly in Rabat.

We have not added our co-ordinates while here as Andrew is successfully tracking us on the map, but for information we are at N18.09336, W015.97724 from the Garmin Nuvi.

Expect to be able to connect via Wifi in St Louis.
